After the victory on the first day of Cameroon, Sadio Mané’s Senegal, Hakimi’s Morocco and Aubameyang’s Gabon (absent for Covid) won in the first group match. Victories acquired in difficulty for Senegal who can say thank you to their captain Sadio Mané, scorer on penalty in the 97th and for Morocco, winner 1-0 of Ghana of the Ayew brothers thanks to the former player of Lille, Sofiane Boufal .
The African Cup of Nations usually takes place every two years, in odd-numbered years, so as not to collide with the World Cup or the Euro, but for this 33rd edition had to be postponed from 2021 to 2022 due to constraints linked to the health crisis. In addition, after programming in summer during the previous edition, CAN 2022 returns to more usual dates, in winter, from January 9 to February 6.
The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations is hosted by Cameroon. This is the second time in history that the competition has been organized by the country after that of 1972.
This 2022 African Cup of Nations will take place in two stages: first the group matches, from January 9 to 20, then the final phase with the knockout stages from January 23 to 26, the quarter-finals on January 29 and January 30, the semi-finals on February 2 and 3, then the match for third place and the final on Sunday February 6, 2022. The top two from each group and the top four third will advance to the round of 16. In the event of a tie, the following criteria will be used to decide between them: the greatest number of points obtained in the match between the two teams, then the best overall goal difference, then the best attack. If two nations are still tied, then a drawing of lots is carried out. Here is the full schedule:
