The US Geological Survey (USGS) first announced the magnitude of the earthquake in Afghanistan as 6.1, then updated it to 5.9. It was announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was 46 kilometers southwest of Khost province, which is located in eastern Afghanistan, on the border with Pakistan.

The earthquake, which occurred at 01:24 local time, was strongly felt in the densely populated cities, including the capital, Kabul. The earthquake was also felt in key Pakistani cities close to the border, such as Pakistan’s capital city of Islamabad and Peshawar. It was announced that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

EXPLANATION FROM TALIBAN
Bilal Karimi, the deputy spokesperson of the Taliban government, gave information about the earthquake in his post on Twitter.
Karimi said in a statement, “A severe earthquake shook four districts of Paktika province, hundreds of our citizens were killed and injured, and dozens of houses were destroyed. We call on all aid organizations to send teams to the area immediately to prevent further disasters.” said.
