He was the top scorer in Switzerland – but broke the contract.
Now Mathias Bromé reveals why he nobbed the monster salary for moving to the SHL.
– Money is a security, but not a joy, he says to Hockeypuls.
Mathias Bromé has tested his luck in the NHL but most recently played in Switzerland and Davos. He was the team’s best scorer, and also had the second highest score of the entire Swiss league.
Therefore, he moved home
He had one year left on his contract, and many had probably expected that he would stay there for a while, considering how well it went for him, and the differences in salaries there compared to the SHL. But Bromé fought to break the contract, and once it went through, he signed for six (!) Years in the SHL and Örebro.
In other words, it is real money that Bromé is likely to lose. Now he reveals why.
– As you say, there is a big difference financially, there is more money in Switzerland, net money straight into your pocket and large sums. But I have always gone my own way. There are those who think that “of course you should be abroad for ten years and collect money”. But if you’re feeling bad for ten years, then I do not know if it’s worth it. I prefer to feel good, and I really do not feel bad here in Örebro either. So I do not whine, he says to Hockeypuls.
“Is not joy”
Bromé believes that he simply cares about his well-being, and it seems to thrive in Örebro.
– Money is a security, but not a joy. It gives you opportunities to do other things, but it does not give you peace or joy. You can not buy joy. And I think it’s important to find balance in life, and I think I’ve done that now, he says.
Bromé also believes that his life is not over just because his hockey career will one day end.
– I have made money during my career, but regardless, I am not the type who when I retire will lie on the terrace. It’s not me. I want to invent things. I think I want to be something in hockey, either agent or sports director, that’s something I’m passionate about and think is fun.
