INSEE has just released its ranking of the most given first names in 2021. Gabriel is back in first place among boys after being beaten by Léo the previous year, and among girls, it is Jade who has won over the most parents.
Once is not custom, it is the first name Gabriel that always appeals to parents! According to the latest Insee ranking of the most popular first names in 2021, the first name of the angel returns to the top after being dethroned last year by the little Leos.. 4,974 babies born last year were baptized this way, 4,358 others were assigned Leofollowed by the little ones Raphaelnumbering 3957. On the girls side, the choice always falls on Jade for 3802 babies, thus remaining at the top of the ranking. The little Louisa follow closely, with 3768 births, then Les Emmanumbering 3202.
Nothing very surprising, with classics that seem timeless and yet, INSEE indicates that the trend could soon change. Short and “new” first names are more and more popular, and the Noah, Malo, Maé, Elio and even Nino made a remarkable breakthrough. Same observation for girls, where Alba, Ava, Alma, Iris, Romy or even Ella attract more and more favors from young parents, especially if the rhyme is in “a”.
To note : disparities according to the regions, and it is in Brittany for example that Malo has met with the most success, just like Ghjulia in Corsica. Léo is more in demand in the south, while Raphaël is more popular in the north. And if the last ten years, it is probably the same first names that hold the top of the pavement, on a larger scale, it is David, Marie, Isabelle or even Nicolas who have been the subject of the greatest number of nominations.
