Several skiers have chosen to leave the national team.
Now the icon Charlotte Kalla talks about the feelings after all the defections.
– I am convinced that this trio will represent Sweden, she says.
It exploded like a bomb in the ski world. First, sprint specialist Linn Svahn announced that she is leaving the national team, and will train on her own next season.
The duo does as Svahn
And an accident rarely comes alone. Shortly afterwards, the duo Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist announced that they were also leaving Sweden’s cross-country national team. Instead, they will train with their own team at home.
The several dropouts are a heavy blow for the Swedish national team, where three of the most prominent skiers will not be included in the training activities. Charlotte Kalla, who retired after the season, was shocked when she heard about the decision.
– I was surprised. At the same time, I am sure that they will return stronger to the season, regardless of whether they are in the national team or outside. Those who remain in the national team group, the other nations will also have to watch out for this winter, she tells Expressen.
Had no contact at all
Charlotte Kalla has once also chosen to leave the national team. She left in 2016 to test a new approach, but always knew she would return shortly afterwards.
– I knew that it was only a break until I would represent the national team again. It was only a matter of a few months, she says.
The Swedish ski icon says that she had no contact with the trio after their big decision. But she is sure that they will deliver on the ski tracks next winter.
– I am convinced that this trio will represent Sweden’s colors this winter and perform as well as possible, says Kalla.
