– It is obvious that digitalisation opens up a new kind of vulnerability that we must deal with. According to Säpo, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine three months ago has entailed a higher risk of attack. A well-aimed attack in this area could knock out large parts of the payment system, says Minister of Finance Max Elger.
He announces that the government has granted 900 million for the Swedish Fortifications Agency to buy the premises in Solna. Therese Naess, head of the National Cyber Security Center, will also take part in the press conference on Tuesday.
– Today we are sitting in premises at MSB’s office. Those premises are appropriate for the business we conduct today but do not allow for the development that we see ahead of us in the coming years, says Naess.
The investment is part of a larger package to strengthen Swedish cyber security in several areas. Finansinspektionen is also covered by the government’s plan.
The property in Solna will be the base for the national cyber security center, which is currently a collaboration between the Armed Forces, the Swedish Armed Forces Radio Institute (FRA), the Security Police and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) – where the activities have so far been purely physical. The entire center is “under construction” and is expected to be ready by 2023 at the earliest.
