L wants to see a total stop of religious independent

The Liberals want to see a total stop of independent schools with a denominational focus, reports Swedish Radio Ekot.

The party has previously wanted to see a halt to the establishment of new schools. Now the party board also believes that existing religious independent schools will be closed down during the next term.

– We see that this is part of tightening up the entire free school system, safeguarding the freedom of choice, but the practice of religion, and learning about a particular religion, having that character, you have to solve it in another way as a parent. There are lots of excellent Sunday schools, says Liberal party leader Johan Pehrson to the radio.

However, the party leadership proposes that schools with special minority profiles be allowed.

– This means that the national minorities in Sweden, it can be the Finns, the Jews, have the right to run schools within the framework of their minority protection. It is important to preserve, says Pehrson.
