Second heatwave in seven days expected to hit Tuesday Environment

Summer will begin Tuesday with a two-day heatwave forecast throughout southwestern Ontario, including Perth County.

Summer will begin Tuesday with a two-day heatwave forecast throughout Southwestern Ontario, including Perth County.

Temperatures in the region are expected to reach – and maybe even exceed – the low 30s C over the next 48 hours or so, Environment Canada warned Monday.

Overnight temperatures in the low 20s C will provide little relief, the federal weather agency said.

Public health units across Southwestern Ontario are advising residents to keep cool by staying hydrated, avoiding spending time outdoors, refraining from intense physical work and cutting out unnecessary idling in vehicles. Those most vulnerable to the effects of the heat include older adults, infants and young children, outdoor workers, and homeless persons.

The two-day heatwave follows a similar event that prompted heat warnings early last week.

Cooler air is expected to arrive by Thursday, Environment Canada said.
