[Mis à jour le 20 juin 2022 à 00h58] The results of the second round of the legislative elections this Sunday, June 19, 2022 for the National Rally will be those of a historic turning point for the party of Marine Le Pen. The results published after 8 p.m. this Sunday offer a parliamentary group to the RN which clearly exceeds the bar of 15 deputies required for this.
What result for the National Rally in the 2022 legislative elections?
If the first estimates placed the RN between 60 and 90 seats, confirming the dynamic born of the first round, the final result will be very close to the high range with 89 seats in the RN according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. Marine Le Pen had indicated on June 8 in Perpignan, referring to the results of the presidential election: “We were in the lead in 150 constituencies, so we can have 150 deputies”. After the first round, this scenario seemed like a distant memory but the RN hit hard in the 2nd round to get between these 90 deputies, especially in view of his first round score: 18.68% behind Ensemble! (25.75%) and Nupes (25.66%). The RN had managed to qualify 208 of its candidates in the second round.
From the announcement of the first results last Sunday, the machine of the Republican front had however started. Political leaders from the left, center and right had called for blocking Marine Le Pen’s candidates. Beyond the usual speech “not a voice on the far right”, candidates had even decided to withdraw to favor the defeat of RN candidates. This is the case of Maryse Combres in the 1time constituency of Lot-et-Garonne: “It is up to us to look at these results with lucidity: the configuration of this first triangular round, with the dangerous presence of a candidate from the far right, does not allow us to calmly maintain a candidacy of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union in the second round,” she wrote in a press release. However, the Republican front is not always heard. In another constituency of Lot-et-Garonne, the 2nd, the outgoing deputy LREM, Alexandre Freschi, had refused to withdraw in favor of the Nupes: “Some are calling for Republican front and want us to abdicate. Only able to beat the RN, against which we have fought all our fights, we are determined to bring to the second round the ideas of all those who have anchored republican values to the heart.
After winning 18.68% of the votes cast in the first round of legislative elections, the RN hoped to take the greatest number of deputies to the Bourbon Palace. Marine Le Pen’s party was still in the race in 208 constituencies. Also, 110 came out on top. Most often the RN candidates were opposed in duels against the presidential majority, Together! (107 duels), or the coalition of the left, the Nupes (59 duels). The end result, 89 MP seats, arguably exceeds many expectations within the RN.
Who were the National Rally candidates for the legislative elections?
Marine Le Pen was one of the first to formalize her candidacy for the legislative elections through the voice of her right arm, Jordan Bardella, on April 28 from Fréjus. She confirmed in early May to stand for re-election in the 11th constituency of Pas-de-Calais. At the same time, the interim president of the flame party praised the ranks provided by the RN with candidates invested in 567 out of 577 constituencies. Of the six RN deputies present in the Assembly, only four are standing: Marine Le Pen and Bruno Bilde in the Pas-de-Calais, Sébastien Chenu in the North and Nicolas Meizonnet in the Gard. All the other candidates will form the “new generation” of the RN as wanted by Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen.
