The heat has kept Spain in an iron grip for a week and forced people to flee their homes due to threatening forest fires.
Now the temperature has dropped, but the fire brigade is still fighting to put out all fires.
The rescue service in northern Spain is working hard to fight the forest fires that are raging as a result of the heat wave that Spain has endured in the past week.
Now the heat has subsided somewhat, but the fires have had time to destroy large areas of land. The most alarming fire in the northwestern Sierra de Culebra has destroyed more than 25,000 hectares, according to regional authorities.
The fires forced people to flee their homes, but as the situation has eased slightly, residents in about twenty villages were able to return on Sunday.
But the danger is not over. Smaller forest fires are still raging in the regions of Catalonia and Navarre. Local authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel to keep the roads clear of the fire brigade.
In the past week, temperatures above 40 degrees were measured in large parts of Spain.
