Elon Musk announced last month that the deal to buy social network Twitter for $44 billion was suspended. This was due to disagreements about the percentage of fake and bot accounts on Twitter. Although the deal has been suspended, Elon Musk insists on engaging with Twitter soon. So much so that he even held a virtual meeting with Twitter employees on Thursday.
EXAMPLE OF WECHAT AND TIKTOK
Elon Musk explained almost everything about his vision for Twitter at the virtual meeting. Along with a question to Musk, an important issue was opened. In that question, Musk was asked how Twitter can grow its user base and increase engagement. The famous billionaire answered this question by saying that if the company wants to reach 1 billion users, it should be like WeChat and TikTok.
“There is no equivalent of WeChat outside of China,” Musk said. You live on WeChat in China. If we can recreate that with Twitter, we’ll have great success.” said. He also cited the famous billionaire TikTok as an example. “We can make Twitter interesting in the same way,” he said, referring to TikTok, whose algorithm he praised for not being “boring.” Musk especially emphasized that Twitter is better at revealing news. “I think Twitter could be a lot better at informing people about serious issues,” he said.
PEOPLE WANT TO PAY
During the call, Musk reiterated that Twitter wants its revenue to be more based on subscriptions and payments, suggesting that people need to pay to be verified. He suggested using a tag to show the intent of a tweeter. He also repeated earlier comments that he wanted to put an end to bots and spam.
Answering an employee’s question about his views on content moderation, Musk said he believes people “should be able to say pretty ugly things under the law,” but that such conversations should not necessarily be magnified.
“THIS IS NOT A GREAT SITUATION”
The issue that Twitter employees were most curious about was layoffs. When asked about the possibility of layoffs, Musk replied, “Currently, costs exceed revenue. It’s not a great situation.” said. Stating that the company should be “healthy” financially and reduce costs, Musk implied that there may be layoffs in the future.
Elon Musk stated that Twitter employees who do “excellent” jobs should be allowed to continue working from home.
ALIEN STATEMENT FROM ELON MUSK
Towards the end of the conversation, Musk changed the subject to civilizations in space, earth and other planets. In other words, what he did or did, even in the Twitter meeting, he brought the subject to the aliens. Musk said he “has yet to see any real evidence for aliens.”
