Young people interested in learning about the skilled trades can apply for a new training and employment project offered by the Prosperity Roundtable.

Not Just A Handyman is intended to introduce participants to using different tools while exposing them to different trade opportunities and preparing their journey into the trades, a media release stated.

Applications for the two summer groups are now open. There are limited spaces left for the June 27 to July 14 session while spots are available for the July 25 to Aug. 11 sessions. Applications close June 22.

“This three-week training pays youth to learn foundational skills, and connects them with local businesses who are hiring,” stated the media release. “After the three weeks, trainees will have tons of opportunities to participate in networking events, workshops that grow their skills, unique employment opportunities, and supports to continue education in the trades.”

“I’m really excited to be launching this project in our community,” said William Laurie, trades and youth mentor for the Prosperity Roundtable. “We have heard from a lot of young people, and it is great to see how passionate they are about entering the trades!”
