Environmental crime and organized crime go hand in hand. The government is now appointing an inquiry to review environmental criminal law.
– Violation of environmental legislation must of course also lead to tangible penalties, says Minister of Climate and Environment Annika Strandhäll (S) at a press conference.
Environmental crimes risk causing everything from severe fires to dangerous emissions and pollution. The police have drawn the government’s attention to a special connection between environmental crime and organized crime.
– Too few environmental crimes are solved and the penalties are too low, says Strandhäll.
The investigator will be Helena Eckerrot Flodin, but long experience as an environmental prosecutor.
