the list of candidates for the 2nd round

LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES. The list of candidates for the 2nd round of the 2022 legislative elections should be unveiled in the coming hours. The deadline for submitting applications was set this Tuesday, June 14 at 6 p.m….

[Mis à jour le 15 juin 2022 à 14h30] Who is a legislative candidate for the second round of the election this Sunday, June 19, 2022? If the 1100 or so qualified for this second round last Sunday were able to give a fairly precise indication, the answer to this question will actually be given in the coming hours, with the publication by the Ministry of the Interior of the official list of candidates. in each constituency.

You should know that a candidate who has met the conditions to qualify in the first round (arriving among the first two in the first round or in third position, but with 12.5% of those registered) is not automatically a candidate in fine for the second round. Several withdrawals have already been announced, here and there during the inter-round campaign which began on Monday. In some of the 8 planned triangular elections, withdrawals took place to prevent the FN from doing well. Some duels will also turn into single-ballot voting, a handful of candidates having decided to throw in the towel, almost some to be beaten next Sunday.

Candidates wishing to remain, however, had until Tuesday, June 14 at 6 p.m. to resubmit their candidacy for this second round. The official list of candidates for the second round of the legislative elections will thus be published by the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday 15 June. From 6,293 candidates in the first round, the figure should logically drop to just over 1,100 candidates, with duels taking place in 572 constituencies and triangular ones in 4 to 6 constituencies. If a few “star” candidates will monopolize the attention (Elisabeth Borne in the 6th constituency of Calvados, Marine Le Pen in the 11th constituency of Pas-de-Calais or Gérald Darmanin in the 10th constituency of Nord) the vast majority was still unknown to voters before the first round.

Legislative elections concern the whole of France, but take the form of 577 elections in total, in 577 constituencies. These are numbered by department and vary according to population: from a single constituency for the less populated departments such as Creuse, up to 21 constituencies for the much denser Nord department. This map gives access to the list of constituencies for each department.

In Paris and other big cities like Toulouse or Nice, the legislative elections bend to a particular configuration. The largest communes are in fact themselves divided into several constituencies. Many candidates are therefore in the running in each of these cities, even if the voters will ultimately only have about ten ballots in their polling stations. Also, to be a candidate, it is necessary to file a declaration of candidacy in the prefecture for each ballot. And it is already far too late if you wish to apply: for the first round, the declarations of candidacy had to be submitted from Monday May 16 to Friday May 20, 2022. For the second round, the submission of applications – for the qualified – is possible June 13 and 14, 2022.
