If a few “star” candidates will monopolize the attention (Elisabeth Borne in the 6th constituency of Calvados, Marine Le Pen in the 11th constituency of Pas-de-Calais or Gérald Darmanin in the 10th constituency of Nord) the vast majority was still unknown to voters before the first round.

Legislative elections concern the whole of France, but take the form of 577 elections in total, in 577 constituencies. (Almost) everyone can stand for parliamentary elections. It is mandatory, first of all, to be of legal age. Also, to be a candidate, it is necessary to file a declaration of candidacy in the prefecture for each ballot. And it is already far too late if you wish to apply: for the first round, the declarations of candidacy had to be submitted from Monday May 16 to Friday May 20, 2022. For the second round, the submission of applications – for the qualified – is possible June 13 and 14, 2022.
The declaration of candidacy must contain the following information: surname, first names, sex, date and place of birth, domicile, profession of the candidate; surname, first names, gender, date and place of birth, domicile, profession of the candidate’s replacement; constituency in which the application is made; candidate’s signature. It must be accompanied by the written acceptance of the replacement.
As a reminder: a candidate does not have the obligation, on the other hand, to appear on the electoral list of one of the municipalities of the legislative constituency he is targeting. The candidate must also provide documents to prove that he has appointed a financial agent.
