A friend may have recently forwarded you an enticing Whatsapp message titled “Leroy Merlin Father’s Day Contest”: this one offers to win one of the 5,000 gas barbecues allegedly put into play by Leroy Merlin at the occasion of Father’s Day. Be careful, even if it was sent to you by a relative, it is a scam, as reported nice morning. The scam in question consists of making you click on the link, then having you scratch off boxes that suddenly make you think that you have won a barbecue! We therefore enjoin you to share the link of the special operation with a dozen or so friends, in order to have the right to receive your brand new barbecue. You are then asked to pay 1 or 2 euros by credit card in order to pay the “delivery costs”. This is the moment when your bank details are collected in an ill-intentioned way. Specialists call this the technique of “phishing” or “phishing”.

Another similar contest circulating on WhatsApp supposedly offers you the chance to win the “brand new Weber gas barbecue” (still “at Leroy Merlin”). This time you have to answer a quiz, then find the hidden price of the product. If the Leroy Merlin logos and that of the barbecue brand appear well, this is again a fake contest. How not to be had? No contest is supposed to ask you for delivery costs. It is also a question of being vigilant with the url of the page on which you are redirected. In the examples above, the page in question was, for example, hosted in Russia.

The celebration of Father’s Day was born in the United States. Young Sonora Smart Dodd (1882-1978) was the daughter of long-time widowed Civil War veteran Henry Jackson Smart. In 1909, she heard about Anna Jarvis’ initiative to initiate a Mother’s Day during a sermon delivered at a Methodist church in Spokane, Washington.
