Turkeys Erdogan reiterates demands on Sweden

Turkey stands firm in its stance of opposing Sweden and Finland as NATO members unless the two countries implement “real measures”.

The message from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is announced via the Turkish government newspaper Daily Sabah and in an updated debate article in British The Economist. Erdogan and the ruling AKP discussed NATO’s future in a meeting with the AKP’s parliamentary group on Wednesday, Turkish media report.

At the same time, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu says that Ankara appreciates NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s attempts to address security issues concerning Turkey. The two spoke on the phone on Tuesday.

President Erdogan again refers to the issue of the EU-branded PKK and the Kurdish YPG militia in Syria.

Erdogan says that terrorist organizations can operate freely in Sweden. The President of Turkey demands a written response from Sweden and Finland to a formal letter on the issue sent from Ankara.
