The Paavo Nurmi athletics competition started at the women’s sledge competition. Krista Tervo threw a final profit of 74.34 and was only six cents behind the Finnish record.
Finland’s second top thrower Silja Kosonen was fifth with a score of 70.10. Kosonen revealed in a post-race interview that the duo had a car crash on Monday.
Kosonen and Tervo were bringing their hammers for weighing in Turku when another car collided with their vehicle.
– Krista got out a little below and warns me. It could have been worse. I got a little stuck between the cars, Kosonen repeated.
Kosonen received bruises on both his hands and feet. At the interview spot, he showed a giant bruise on his arm.
– My legs are pretty blue. I was a little afraid yesterday of what condition I was in the morning when my leg was pretty sore. Pretty bad luck, but it was overcome. There were no major traumas, Kosonen said and chuckled a little.
