The crime took place in 2016. The victim had approached the player on social media and started a conversation about it.

Brazilian player in HJK Jair Tavares Silva and the victim had agreed to meet at the football field in the evening with the intention of playing together. The victim had told the player he was 12 years old before the sexual abuse.

Silva admitted the kiss was initiated by the victim, but denied having sexually touched the 12-year-old.

The district court did not find this explanation particularly convincing. The District Court finds that Silva’s conduct was sexual in nature and was liable to impair the applicant’s development. Silva has been aware of the victim’s age.

In addition to seven months’ probation, Silva was sentenced to pay the victim EUR 1,500 and to pay the state the costs of the proceedings.

Jair had been marked on HJK’s exchange bench this afternoon for tonight’s Finnish Cup VPS away game, but his name was later removed from the line-up.

The thing was fixed at 5:58 pm: HJK will play against the VPS on Monday, not IFK Mariehamn.
