SQUID GAME SEASON 2. Netflix has formalized the upcoming release of Squid Game season 2 with a first visual. What to expect for the rest of the phenomenon series?
[Mis à jour le 13 juin 2022 à 15h16] Season 2 of Squid Game was already announced a few months ago, it is now official by Netflix. The streaming platform announced on its social networks that its phenomenon series would be released “soon”. This announcement was accompanied by a first visual zooming in on the eye of the giant doll which marked the subscribers of the platform. However, the release date is not yet known.
Additional information about Squid Game season 2 has been shared in a press release shared by Netflix. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series’ creator, writer, and director, announced “the return of Gi-hun and the game master” in an “all-new part.” Among the characters that will make their return, let’s also mention the man in the suit, but also the arrival of a new character: Cheol-su, Young-hee’s boyfriend.
Squid Game Season 2 is officially confirmed by Netflix, following an announcement made in November 2021 by AP Entertainment. But when will Netflix subscribers be able to discover it? For the time being, no date has been communicated for this sequel. Netflix only announces an “upcoming” release, without giving any further details on a date. It should be noted, however, that season 1 of Squid Game took more than 10 years to see the light of day, due to the many difficulties encountered by the director and screenwriter which prevented him from concretizing his series project (refusal of the producers, precariousness, crisis sanitary…). Normally, and we hope, season 2 of Squid Game should take less time to be released on the platforms of streaming !
Now that Squid Game Season 2 has been confirmed, what could it be about? The precise scenario is not yet known. We know, however, that Gi-hun, the game master and the man in the suit will be back. Young-hee’s boyfriend, a certain Cheol-su, will also be there. Previously, the series creator announced that Gi-hun would be “acting for the world.” This may suggest that season 2 will definitely pick up right after the end of the first season as the main character won the Squid Game and decides to end the game which is still ongoing. But will he participate again to destroy the game from within? Or are we going to discover a different facet of the series? With the Hollywood Reporter, Hwang Dong-hyuk had mentioned several ideas for this sequel, and in particular the intrigues which could be further developed, such as the past of the police commander and his brother or that of the recruiter in costume.

Squid Game is a real hit on Netflix. The South Korean series depicts children’s games played in a violent way, the outcome of which is often death. The success is such that many children have heard of Squid Game, which is however prohibited for children under 16 years old. In the playgrounds, some reproduce certain events from the series, to the point of alarming the Ministry of National Education: on LCI, Jean-Michel Blanquer appeals to everyone’s “responsibility”, so that the youngest do not not watch the series. “It is obvious that there is the responsibility of the platforms (…), we have seen that it is normally prohibited for those under 16, perhaps measures should be considered. true on such matters”.
As a reminder, however, parental control does exist on the streaming platform, in the Account tab > Profile and parental control > Access restriction. Jean-Michel Blanquer also called for the responsibility of the parents: “we will not achieve anything if we do not have a commitment from the parents to further verify what is happening”, he also estimated. “Don’t leave children alone in front of screens”. School directors and college principals have been alerted to the phenomenon, and some parents may have received messages about this series.
In France, Squid Game is causing controversy in schools: children reproduce games from the Netflix series. Therefore, the question arises of the age limit for viewing this South Korean program. The streaming platform mentions directly on the Squid Game page that this content is restricted to people aged 16 and over, due to its violence. So how do you prevent children and those under 16 from watching the series?
Apart from youth accounts, it is possible to set up parental controls on your Netflix account. Just go to Account > Profile and Parental Controls > Access Restriction. You can then change the age category (content that does not fall within the imposed age limit will no longer be accessible) or target specific content that should not appear, such as Squid Game for example. Attention, if you have several profiles on which your children can go, it is advisable to impose these restrictions on all the profiles.
