A person in Australia is accused of burning his hotel

A person in Cairns, Queensland, in Australia, is accused of burning his hotel room for Covid-19 quarantine.

Sharing a hotel room with her two children, the 31-year-old woman allegedly set a bed on fire on Sunday morning.

160 people were evacuated from the 11-floor hotel, but no one was injured.

The incident came after Australia reported 2 cases of the novel coronavirus variant Omicron.

The World Health Organization (WHO) placed Omicron, which was first detected in South Africa, in the category of variant of concern.

The Canberra government has also banned entry for 14 days from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Leshoto, Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique and the Seychelles. People who are not Australian citizens and have been in these countries in the last 14 days are also restricted from entering Australia.

Australia has implemented the world’s strictest border rules for 20 months as part of coronavirus measures.

The rules were relaxed last month in the country. But it is not yet clear whether the new variant will return the country to restrictions.

The rise in vaccination has put the strategy of eliminating all cases in some Australian states shelved.

However, unvaccinated passengers have to enter the hotel quarantine for 14 days when entering the country.
