The image of Sweden is based on disinformation
At the same time as the current situation between Ankara and Stockholm is seen as tough, bilateral relations are basically good. Right now, however, a lot of errors and misinformation abound that Sweden provides active support to the PKK, says Paul Levin, head of the Institute for Turkey Studies at Stockholm University.
Painted as a country of terror
An example of the inaccuracies in the Turkish media is that Sweden is portrayed as a terrorist country where terrorists are allowed to walk around freely and everyone waves PKK flags. This plays a major role in public opinion in the country, despite the fact that some Turks know that the media does not always give a correct picture of the situation, says TV4 Nyheter’s foreign correspondent Terese Cristiansson.
