Security cameras, open spaces, more lighting and more storage space in the apartments instead of the basement. There are some points that the housing companies in Bäckby have worked with to increase security and prevent crime.
Safety walks have been made in the area and during these, the municipal housing company Mimer has discovered concrete things to work on.
– We saw that some places felt unsafe, such as the corridors between the parking lots and the courtyards. Today, they are open and safe, says Annelie Hedman, who is responsible for Mimer’s office in Bäckby.
Camera surveillance yielded results – more companies want to go the same way
Something that has also yielded results is the security cameras in Mimer’s car parks, which began to be set up in 2018. This after vandalism and car fires that occurred during the years 2016-2017. Since the cameras were set up, not a single car fire has occurred in Mimer’s parking lots, according to Annelie Hedman.
Even more housing companies in Bäckby are today having a discussion about setting up cameras to prevent crime.
The security work for the companies continues and a big issue is the lighting according to Hedman and the will to change is great.
– Changes do not happen very quickly, but what we see is that the willingness to work with the area is great. From several directions.
