ROCKETMAN. Released in 2019, the movie Rocketman is a musical biopic about the life of Elton John. Does the main interpreter, Taron Egerton, himself give voice in the film?

He is interested in the life of Elton John, from his childhood to his rise to the rank of star of the song. On the production side, it was Dexter Fletcher who completed the filming of Rocketman after Bryan Singer was dismissed. To play the role of the successful singer, Taron Egerton was chosen. And the least we can say is that the actor’s performance marked viewers and critics alike. The young actor has been singing since he was a child and even took singing lessons in order to be as credible as possible in the skin of Elton John. The rockstar even totally dubbed him. The film’s producer David Furnish tells The Hollywood Reporter that Elton John was “blown away” when he first heard Egerton’s voice. “Elton said, ‘It can’t be better for me'”. What did the press think of Rocketman? The critics
For Le Monde, Rocketman is a “biopic without genius” which serves above all to consecrate Elton John. Taron Egerton, interpreter of the star of the song, is praised by the French daily for his ability to “try to lend a little of his charm to the least sensual of stars in the history of rock’n’roll”. However, the film is considered too incisive even if it succeeds in accomplishing its primary mission: “to make you want to dive back into the music of Elton John”.
Le Point, meanwhile, is more lenient, explaining that we “emerge from the projection of Rocketman with glitter in our eyes”. Taron Egerton is again particularly complimented, deemed “perfect from start to finish”. Télérama is more measured, pointing to a biopic “too clumsy to take off” because crippled with “pathos and clichés”. For Large Screen, the feature film “suffers from a rather bastard rhythm.” The publication also regrets that the film, “pure hagiographic exercise” is not a little longer.
The daily 20 Minutes compares Rocketman to Bohemian Rhapsody. A very logical comparison given the genre shared by the two films which were even directed (in part) by the same man, Dexter Fletcher. The newspaper finds the feature film dedicated to Elton John “funnier, stronger and truer”. Where the film with Rami Malek had chosen to throw a rather modest veil on the homosexuality of Freddie Mercury, Rocketman stages Elton John vividly fully his sexual orientation.
Taron Egerton and Elton John have become friends
As for Taron Egerton, know that the actor does his best not to read it. But it’s more complicated than it seems, as he told on the set of Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show on ABC in the United States. “I try to avoid them, but Elton emails them to me every day. Everyday! I’m sure he sorts them out, so I don’t see the bad reviews. He emails them to me and that is always the same title: ‘Another One’.”
Either way, Taron Egerton and Elton John have been brought together by the Rocketman experience. Truly dubbed by the international star, the young actor gives everything in his interpretation of Elton John and it is clear that he has shared a lot with the actor. In Cannes, Taron Egerton answered questions from Elle magazine, recounting his friendship with Elton John. “Elton and I have spent a lot of time together over the past few years. He’s a producer on the film, he’s been very involved.”
