Long queues outside Stockholm

Long queues outside Stockholm

A rescue effort, a water leak and students create disruptions in Stockholm traffic.

The longest queues have occurred on the E18.

– The traffic gets worse the closer you get to Stäketbron, says Felicia Danielsson at the Swedish Transport Administration.

In some places, there has been a real queue on the roads during Friday.

The worst situation is on the E18, where the police have been on site for most of the day for a rescue operation.

Felicia Danielsson, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration Stockholm, says that the queues are the longest on the southern part of the stretch – the queue formation extends all the way from Bro to Kungsängen.

Prolonged rescue operation

– To the north, the traffic starts to move slowly from Hjulsta / Barkarby and then it gets worse the closer you get to Stäketbron where the rescue effort is currently underway, says Felicia Danielsson.

She states that the police redirect the northbound traffic to the E4 via Enköping / Uppsala, and the southbound traffic to the E20 via Södertälje / Strängnäs.

In addition to this, both water leaks and students have created chaos in Stockholm traffic.

– The driveway at Skansbron has been closed most of the day due to a water leak, but there it is starting to look a little better now. A lane has been opened and traffic is slowly but surely starting to flow better, says Felicia Danielsson.

Fear of sabotage

The wheelchair tunnel has been closed for preventive purposes since 2.30 pm – this to stop student flats from entering the tunnel.

– The students light Bengals and it becomes smoky and messy, so to minimize the risk of sabotage, the police chose to make that decision, says Felicia Danielsson and continues:

– The forecast was that the tunnel would open again at 18 and it seems that it was also opened a little while ago. But now I can see that the police closed it down again and that it will probably be closed for several more hours.

Were the police a little over-optimistic in their assessment?

– It seems so, says Felicia Danielsson.
