USA, inflation soars to + 8.6% in May: the highest since 1981

USA inflation soars to 86 in May the highest

(Finance) – US inflation rises again in May 2022. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), consumer prices have registered a 1% increase on a monthly basisagainst + 0.7% of the consensus, compared to + 0.3% in April.

Every yearthe growth in inflation was8.6%, higher than the + 8.3% of the previous month and the + 8.3% expected by the market. This is the record since December 1981. The increase was spread, with real estate, fuel and food which were the biggest contributors. After falling in April, the energy index rose 3.9% in the month with the gasoline index up 4.1%. The food index rose 1.2% in May, while the food at home index rose 1.4%.

The “core” rate, i.e. the consumer price index purified of the more volatile components such as food and energy, most observed by the FED, recorded an increase of 0.6% on a monthly basis, compared to 0.6% the previous month and +0 , 5% expected. The trend figure attests an increase of 6%, also in this case above expectations (+ 5.9%). The previous month’s figure was + 6.2%.

L’energy index rose 34.6% in the past year, the largest increase in 12 months since the period ending September 2005. The food index increased 10.1% for the 12 months ending May, the first increase of 10 % or more from the end of the period to March 1981.
