Senegal hooked but victorious, and Togo which falls

CAN qualifier first day Radio Foot Internationale

Senegal won their home game on Tuesday, June 7 against Rwanda at Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio (1-0) on a penalty kick in stoppage time. Togo was beaten by Cape Verde (2-0)

After their victory against Benin and Sadio Mané’s hat-trick – which allowed him to become the top scorer in the history of his country -, Senegal had the opportunity to continue at home, since they received again, this time Rwanda, at Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio.

It’s at the 11e minute that Senegal started hostilities with a header from Sadio Mané on a corner, and a ball that passed just next to the cage. The Rwandans suffered, but resisted despite Pape Sarr’s three attacks in the first period. Senegal, dominating, forgot to be realistic. In the second half, Aliou Cissé’s men never found the solution before this penalty in stoppage time taken by Sadio Mané (90e+5). The crushing victory against Benin will not be repeated.

The reigning African champions aimed to capitalize on their first success. The contract is fulfilled. Lions go on vacation with peace of mind.

Just before, Togo was beaten by Cape Verde in Marrakech (2-0). Les Requins Bleus, 8th runners-up in the previous edition, opened the scoring with a goal from Julio Tavares in the 10the minute. We had to wait for stoppage time to see Cape Verde double the lead with Jamiro Monteiro, on a decisive pass from Tavares (90e+4). With only 1 point, Togo, last of group B is already distanced by Burkina Faso (5 points).
