The Swedish and Finnish police in the border area in Tornedalen will cooperate to a greater extent in the future. An agreement on police co-operation was signed last autumn and now an investigation will look more closely at what the co-operation should look like.
The purpose of in-depth police cooperation between the countries is to create better conditions for maintaining public order and security, as well as to prevent, detect and investigate crimes in urgent situations.
“We already have a well-functioning police co-operation with Finland, but now we will deepen the co-operation and improve the opportunities to help each other in urgent situations,” said Minister of Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson in a press release.
The investigation will be completed in August next year.
