A new security option, enabled by default in iOS 16’s Settings, will allow Apple to automatically install the most important security updates between regular iOS updates.
As important as they are, important mobile security updates are often difficult for manufacturers to get users to adopt quickly. And for good reason, their installation generally requires immobilizing the terminal for which they are intended, making it temporarily unusable. Because if the download of the security patch itself is fast, its installation can sometimes require several tens of minutes. As a result, many are postponing, sometimes for several days, the installation of potentially critical patches.

Silent security updates
To prevent its iPhones from turning into sieves and ensure maximum security for its users, Apple has apparently found a solution. In iOS 16, the Cupertino company has added an option within the automatic update settings panel, a priori activated by default, which will allow it to automatically download and install its security updates on the devices concerned. .
Thanks to “Rapid Security Response” – this is the name of this option – Apple will be able, between two classic iOS updates, to push its security updates to the iPhones and launch their installation remotely without the user has any action to perform. Even better, while these security updates are installed, the user will be able to continue using their device. The process should indeed happen in the background and will not require restarting the iPhone.
iOS 16, which was unveiled on June 6 at WWDC, includes many new features, including the ability to customize the lock screen interface, recall and edit messages sent too quickly, or even share photos in a shared family photo library on iCloud.
