Breaking news… British Prime Minister Boris Johnson won the vote of confidence within the Conservative Party, of which he is the leader, by 211 votes to 148.

Johnson emerged victorious from the intra-party confidence vote held at 20.00-22.00 CET, after the number of letters of no confidence submitted by lawmakers regarding his leadership position exceeded 54.

Johnson won the Conservative Party caucus by 211 votes to 148.

With Prime Minister Johnson getting a vote of no confidence from his party, a vote of no confidence will not be required for him for 12 months.

Boris Johnson has been under criticism and pressure to resign, after parties were held in the Prime Minister’s Office Number 10 during the Covid-19 pandemic that violated quarantine rules.

Johnson, who was also fined for one of these parties, was accused of lying to the parliament by some of his party’s lawmakers and the opposition. (AA)
