Alexis Vuillermoz won the second stage and took on the leader’s yellow jersey on Monday June 6 in Brives-Charensac, after a long breakaway poorly controlled by the peloton. Vuillermoz returned to success, the ninth in a career which culminated in a stage of the Tour de France 2015 (in Mûr-de-Bretagne) but the first since the Drôme Classic in February 2019. Vuillermoz, beaming, recalled having gone through hard times for twelve months and his fall in the time trial of the Tour de Suisse: “ A year ago, I fractured my pelvis. The doctors said it was the end of my career. I even feared for life, I found myself in intensive care. I didn’t know if I was going to continue cycling! » Alexis Vuillermoz is the new leader of the event and succeeds the Belgian Wout van Aert.
