Mikael Ymer, ranked 95th before the French Championships, impressed Roland Garros. The 23-year-old Swede defeated James Duckworth followed by Dan Evans, both clearly ranked higher to advance to the third round.
There, however, it was a travel pass against the then world four Stefanos Tsitsipas who won in three straight sets.
However, Ymer’s Grand Slam tournament echoes the men’s world rankings. The Swede climbs twelve places, from 95th to 83rd place. He has been ranked 67th best.
Climbing also makes Danish Holger Rune and Norwegian Casper Ruud. Rune, who lost to Ruud in the quarterfinals, climbs twelve places to 28th place. Ruud, who lost the final to Rafael Nadal, is in turn the world number six and thus climbs two places.
Rafael Nadal swaps places with Stefanos Tsitsipas and is the new world four after his 14th French championship title. Novak Djokovic remains world number one.
Cori “Coco” Gauff got a heavy finish at the French championships when she lost both the singles and doubles finals. She climbs the ladies’ ranking, however. The 18-year-old advances ten places and now houses in thirteenth place.
Gauff hit in the semifinals out Martina Trevisan, and the Italian herself takes a real shot at the ranking. Trevisan advances a full 32 places and is a new 27th.
The winner of the French championships, Iga Swiatek, is still superior world number one.
Rebecca Peterson, who did not play in the French championships due to an ankle injury, loses eight places and is 95th. Mirjam Björklund, who advanced to the main round, climbed 14 places and is now 134th.
