De Groot last lost a match in February 2021. Her victory in the final at Roland Garros marked her fiftieth victory in a row. De Groot won all grand slam tournaments last year and she also won the Paralympic title, completing the so-called golden grand slam. De Groot was the first tennis player to win a golden grand slam since Steffi Graf in 1988.
