Microsoft has just updated its web browser to version 102. Edge can now use an interface in line with that of Windows 11, provided you activate it manually.
Microsoft unveiled version 102 of its Edge web browser a few days ago. This update, which does not really offer new functionality worthy of interest to users, is mainly content to correct a few security problems and modify certain strategies in the operation of the browser.
Edge 102 nevertheless conceals a novelty within the flags, the famous experimental functions of the browser: a new design adopting the graphic codes applied to Windows 11. The functionality, which was until now only available within the Canary channel ( for developers) can now be manually enabled in the stable version of the browser. It allows to test in Preview “Mica”, a dynamic visual effect which allows the title bar and the toolbar to adapt their color to the dominant color of the image used in the background on the desktop of Windows 11 when the default theme is used. It is also possible to enable rounded corners for browser tabs. By opening its test to a slightly wider audience, Microsoft hopes to gather the opinion of a greater number of users.
How do I activate the new Edge design?
To take advantage of these graphic changes, you will have no choice but to put your hands under the hood. Microsoft has hidden this new function behind a “flag” that just needs to be activated to display the options concerned in the browser settings. The manipulation, relatively simple, is within everyone’s reach.
Start by making sure that Edge is up to date with version 102. To do this, click on the main menu, then in Help and feedback, go to About Microsoft Edge. If it’s not up to date yet, Edge will automatically start downloading and installing the latest version.
In the address bar of the browser, go to the address edge://flags/#edge-visual-rejuv-show-settings. Then click on the drop-down menu Default flag Show experimental appearance settings and select Enabled.
Finally click on the button To restart to relaunch Microsoft Edge. You will then find in the section Appearance of the Settings of the browser two new options: the first for Show Windows 11 visual effects in title bar and toolbarthe second for Use rounded corners for browser tabs.
Note that you will need to restart Microsoft Edge by clicking on the button provided for this purpose after activating each of these features.
