Texas resident Trey Ganem, 50, has received a lot of attention since it emerged that he specially made coffins for each of the 19 children who were murdered in the school shooting in Uvalde on May 24.
Trey Ganem runs a coffin company SoulShine Industries in the city of Edna, which is located 320 km from Uvalde. Just hours after the massacre, he published a post on the company’s Facebook page in which he stated that he would do what he could to help the victims.
“I have been asked to talk to the families and help with the coffins. It is something that no family should ever have to deal with “, wrote Trey Ganem in the post, reports The Hill.
TikTok-themed chest
Trey Ganem then met with the families of the murdered schoolchildren to discuss the specific design and theme of each coffin. The wishes of the families ranged from everything between Spider-Man, TikTok, softball, dinosaurs and butterflies.
– We specially design each coffin, says Trey Ganem to CNN.
The work with the coffins went away. Trey Ganem and his 25-year-old son worked day and night and managed to complete the 19 coffins in three days. Then they were all sent to Uvalde.
The funerals for the school shooting victims began on Wednesday.
The friend’s death gave him the idea
To CNN, Trey Ganem says that he specially designed coffins in connection with several fatal shootings, such as the massacre in Las Vegas in 2017 when 60 people were murdered.
Trey Ganem says it was his friend’s death eleven years ago that inspired him to start with specially designed coffins. And in addition to some small donations, Trey Ganem states that his company was responsible for the entire bill for the 19 chests.
