Joachim Trier is no longer an unknown name in world cinema: at least since the outstanding Oslo, 31 August, the Norwegian director should be known to every film fan. Last year he presented his latest work at the Cannes Film Festival. It was The Worst Man in the World.
The mixture of romantic comedy and film-made existential crisis was represented at numerous festivals in 2021 and was positively reviewed almost across the board. It’s no wonder that the extraordinary film was featured on numerous best lists in the international press and recently also played a role in the Oscars.

The story of World’s Worst Man revolves around Julie (Renate Reinsve), who is about to turn 30 and is dating comic book artist Aksel (Anders Danielsen Lie), who is a little older. The idea of a family with children is in the room, but it quickly turns out that the reality much more complicated is.

In World’s Worst Man we delve into Julie’s life as it unfolds in twelve chapters. The film also has a prologue and an epilogue. And between all this hides a stunning sequence: In a moment of crisis, Julie simply stops the world to see it with new eyes.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of this breathtaking sequence. However, seeing her on the big screen is a whole different feeling. For a long time, Trier’s film embedded itself rather unobtrusively in contemporary Oslo. Suddenly the city wakes up in you absolutely magical light to life, although it actually stands still. No wonder that Julie’s life changed completely afterwards.
