Mats Wilander is one of Swedish tennis’ greatest players of all time. He has won most things and has become hugely popular with everyone who all loves the sport of tennis.
Successful career
The icon has won several world tournaments – several times over. Among other things, Mats Wilander has won both the Australian and French open three times each, something few have succeeded in Swedish tennis.
His first victory came in the French Open in 1982. He shocked everyone when he took home the historic victory, something that was only the beginning of a very successful career.
The 2022 version of the tournament is currently underway, and Mats Wilander is of course on hand to follow the matches. And to Discovery, he gives a status report and tells about the victory in 1982.

And when it comes down to it, Mats Wilander wants to thank a certain other Swedish legend for the victory. None less than Björn Borg.
– Above all, I want to thank Björn Borg who did not choose to compete in 1982. Therefore, I managed to win the French championships. Thank you, Björn !, says Wilander and breaks out in a smile.
