Police blotter Man faces weapons charges after incidents in Simcoe

A 43-year-old Tillsonburg man is facing weapons and theft charges after two robberies in Simcoe.

Police say a person was threatened by an individual armed with an edged weapon on West Street in Simcoe at about 7:45 pm on May 17. The person was robbed of a quantity of cash but was not injured, said Norfolk OPP.

Two days later, police responded to Queensway West in Simcoe after reports that a vehicle window had been damaged and an occupant had been assaulted. An item was also stolen from the occupier. Police did not disclose the nature of the item. The incident occurred at about 8:30 am

Police say the same suspect, who was known to the victims, was involved in both incidents.

The man has been charged with robbery with theft, robbery with weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft under $5,000 and theft under $5,000 from a vehicle. He is also charged with mischief under $5,000 and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Driver facing numerous charges

An Ohsweken resident is facing numerous charges after a single-vehicle collision near Hagersville.

The 19-year-old driver suffered minor injuries in the crash that occurred the morning of May 23 on Indian Line, near Chiefswood Road, in Hagersville.

“While speaking with the driver, signs of alcohol consumption were detected,” said a release from Haldimand OPP.

The driver was transported to hospital for treatment and released. He was then transported to an Ontario Provincial Police detachment for further assessment.

The driver was subsequently charged with impaired driving offences, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Further, the accused’s license was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

$15,000 dump trailer stolen

Police are investigating the theft of 2019 black dump trailer valued at $15,000.

The dump trailer was stolen from a residential driveway on Concession 12, Townsend, in Norfolk County.

The theft was reported to Norfolk OPP on May 24.

The trailer, measuring 8 by 12 feet, has solid steel on the bottom portion and mesh steel on top.
