By the early 1990s, the slasher film was almost entirely dead. Too often in the pre-1990s, the horror subgenre was flooded with countless copies and generic works. When Wes Craven then Scream in 1996 – scream! released, the slasher was ironically buried and completely revolutionized at the same time.

If you’ve never seen Scream or want to watch it again, today is your chance. Sixx is broadcasting the horror classic tonight. This year Cravens masterful reckoning with the subgenre also strongly continued.

With a lot of meta-humor, the director takes aim at the genre in Scream, without neglecting its gripping and frightening roots.
