On Saturday night, it will finally be decided: Real Madrid will face Liverpool in the Champions League final – a repeat of the clash from four years ago, when Madrid took home the final 3-1. After a tumultuous start to the evening – where the start of the match had to be postponed for 36 minutes due to unrest outside the arena – it is Liverpool who have started best. 20 minutes into the match, Mané folds in from the left and fires a shot that Courtois managed to control in the post and then take care of the return. But it was Real Madrid who would come closest to a lead goal in the first half. Just before the half-time break, Karim Benzema is played free and gets the ball into the net after a tangled situation – the goal is ruled out when Benzema was offside. Barely a quarter into the second half, however, comes the lead goal for Real Madrid. Vinicius JR stays ahead and directs Valverde’s shot into the net: 1-0 for the Spaniards.
