Panic erupted at a charity event in Port Harcourt, Nigeria on Saturday, killing more than 30 people.
The tragedy occurred when many residents had gathered on a sports field, where the local church King’s congregation had promised support to the poor.
Police spokeswoman Grace Iringe-Koko in the state of Rivers in the southern part of the country confirmed on Saturday afternoon that 31 people had died in connection with food and gifts being distributed.
