Local artist speaking about Thames Art Gallery exhibition

A local artist will speak about her exhibition at the Thames Art Gallery and provide a tour on June 2.

Darla Fisher-Odjig’s Beneath the Mask is on display now at the municipal art gallery at 75 William St. N. in Chatham. The evening will begin at 7 pm

Fisher-Odjig was born in Sault Ste. Marie of Odawa, Ojibwa and Pottawatomi lineage and is both a visual artist and published author.

“The recent visit to Canada by Prince Charles and the meeting of Indigenous leaders with the Pope form a remarkable backdrop for the evening’s events,” a news release stated.

Beneath the Mask is noted for its “rhythm, color and rich symbolism,” the release said. “Through the six paintings and one sculpture on display, the artist invites her viewers on a journey that is both beautiful and filled with undeniable truths.”

Fisher-Odjig will also be reading from her book, A Walk in Two Worlds, and other works of poetry.

The event is free, family-friendly and open to everyone.
