Police received an alarm about the incident at 16.42 on Friday.
– She has walked on a street in an area that is very close to the forest, and then this moose has simply come forward and attacked her several times and, among other things, stomped on her, says police spokesman Peter Adlersson.
– The moose must also have tried to attack other people, but they have been able to hide or escape.
After a while, the elk cow went back into the forest and lay down next to her calf.
– It was to protect the calf, of course, says Adlersson.
The police officer on duty decided that both the elk cow and the calf should be killed, as it was considered that they posed a danger to the public. The decision to kill the calf is also based on the assessment that it cannot survive on its own.
– Hunters have been there and killed them.
The police have no further information about how badly injured the woman is, but she was conscious and could tell what had happened when she was taken into care.
