In Germany, the cases of coronavirus are decreasing day by day. According to the information given by the Robert-Koch Institute (RKI), a total of 49 thousand new cases were found in the last 24 hours. In the statement, which stated that this number was 10 thousand lower than the same day of the previous week, it was announced that the weekly incidence value, that is, the number of cases seen in 100 thousand people, decreased to 281. However, it is feared that the epidemic will regain strength after the summer months.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, 26 million 159 thousand cases have been recorded in Germany in total, while the number of people who lost their lives due to Corona virus increased to 138 thousand 643.
Parallel to the decrease in cases, the removal of restrictions, especially the mask requirement, creates the perception of “the pandemic is over” in the German public, but scientists do not give up on the virus, considering that the epidemic will return in the autumn. While emphasizing the possibility of COVID-19 experiencing a new phase, experts warn of a winter season that may pass in the shadow of the pandemic, with the reopening of schools after the summer vacation.
Regarding the vaccine, which is still considered as the most effective measure, Germany’s Permanent Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommended that the Corona virus vaccine be administered to all children in the 5-11 age group. While recommending the vaccine to “prevent severe COVID-19 cases and deaths in children aged 5-11,” Stiko explained that a single dose of the vaccine would be sufficient for children of this age. Last fall, Stiko recommended vaccination only for children with chronic diseases or those around them who are in the risk group.
Monkey Blossom VIRUS CAUSES CONCERN
On the other hand, Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach announced that 21-day isolation is required to prevent the spread of the monkeypox virus, which has emerged in the country’s big cities such as Berlin and Munich.
Pointing out that people with whom they have been in contact with those infected with the virus should be quarantined, the minister also announced that an increase in the number of patients infected with the virus is expected in the coming days. Stating that epidemics similar to the monkeypox virus have occurred before and that it is known how to fight this issue compared to the early stages of COVID-19, the minister noted that despite this, the situation should be taken seriously. Meanwhile, it was reported that 40 thousand doses of smallpox vaccine were ordered as a precaution, and a disproportionate increase in monkeypox infections was observed among men, especially after sexual contact with their fellow men.
Experts emphasized the importance of safe sexual intercourse, known as Safer Sex, in preventing infection. Reporting that monkeypox virus has been seen in many countries recently, Robert Koch Institute (RKI) shared that the first case in Germany was seen on 22 May, and that at least 13 cases of monkeypox virus have been reported in the country so far.
