The return of Antoñín to La Rosaleda last summer was another of Málaga’s star bets for this season. The academy player had a brilliant break into the first team, an appearance that not only contributed to the sum of points and victories, but was also decisive for the recovery of the entity with his transfer for 1.5 million to Granada.
The player, after playing on loan at Rayo Vallecano, forced himself to return to Malaga and the club made an effort to address his return in the hope that it would be one of the flags of the project. But his return has been clearly unsuccessful. On and off the field. A huge disappointment. The performance and attitude of the footballer, like that of a notable majority of players in the squad, have not been ideal.
Some punctual spark like his two assists against Real Sociedad B in the first round or his goals against Zaragoza and Las Palmas are nothing but exceptions in a mediocre season. The attacker did not win the confidence of José Alberto and asked to leave in January and then, after the Asturian’s dismissal, try to back down and change his speech in public. But the changes on the bench did not change his bad dynamics of the season either. In fact, the arrival of Guede ended up condemning him.
The Argentine gave him his confidence from the start, but a bad gesture after being substituted in Las Palmas and the subsequent indiscipline when they caught him playing futsal with his friends sentenced him. Guede did decide to take the bull by the horns and leave him aside. He made it clear to him that he would not play again this season and has not called him up again.
Antoñín, therefore, will end the year of his return away from the pitch, where he did not meet the expectations generated by his return. His numbers summarize well what his season has been: 31 official matches (30 in the League and one in the Cup), three goals and three assists in a total of 1,403 minutes played.
