The act occurred at a primary school in the city of Uvalde in Texas at lunch local time. At least 15 people have been killed, including 14 students and a teacher. This was stated by the state governor Greg Abbott at a press conference.
He adds that the suspected shooter, an 18-year-old student at the city’s high school, is also dead. According to Abbott, the perpetrator must have been armed with a pistol, and possibly also a rifle.
Several injured are being treated in hospital, including two police officers. During the afternoon, parents were reunited with the remaining students.
“Acted alone”
Nearly 600 students, in grades 2-4, go to primary school where the mass shooting took place.
– We have several injured, students and teachers, and several deaths. The perpetrator is dead, says the city’s police chief Pete Arredondo.
Everything that has emerged so far indicates that it is a lone perpetrator, Arredondo states.
– He acted alone in this heinous crime.
US President Joe Biden has been informed of the incident, according to a White House spokesman.
