Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who won the general election held on 3 April in Hungary for the fourth time in a row, announced that a state of emergency was declared in Hungary as of midnight due to the Ukraine-Russia War, right after the new government was formed.
In a statement on his Facebook account, Orban said that the ongoing war in neighboring Ukraine could not be predicted when it would end, and that his government, which took an oath, took steps in this regard.
FIRST MEASURES WILL BE ANNOUNCED
Orban stated that the Hungarian government will assume emergency powers in order to respond more quickly to the challenges posed by the war in neighboring Ukraine. Using the words “The world is on the verge of an economic crisis”, Orban said that Hungary should stay out of the war in Ukraine and “protect the financial security of the families”. Orban stated that the government will announce the first measures within the scope of the emergency tomorrow.
In Hungary, the government had previously declared a state of emergency as part of the fight against irregular migration and Kovid-19.
CRITIZED BY THE EU AND HUMAN RIGHTS GROUPS
Orban, the leader of the Young Democrats Union (Fidesz) Party, won a 2/3 majority in the parliament in the general elections on 3 April. As Orban gradually increased his powers during his 12-year tenure, he is frequently criticized by the European Union (EU) and human rights groups. (AA-UAV)
