While the Russia-Ukraine war is among the most important agenda items in the world, Ukraine’s membership to the European Union continues to be discussed. After Russia’s attacks, Ukraine applied to join the European Union (EU) and demanded that the process be accelerated. A remarkable statement came from France regarding Ukraine’s EU membership process.
“PROPOSSIBLE TO LAST 15 OR 20 YEARS”
Clement Beaune, Minister of State for European Affairs of France, warned that it may take decades for Ukraine to join the EU. “We have to be honest. If you say that Ukraine will join the EU in six months or a year or two, you are lying. Probably 15 or 20 years,” he said.
MACRON’S ‘EUROPEAN POLITICAL COMMUNITY’ OFFER
“I don’t want to present any illusions or lies to the Ukrainians,” Beaune said, reiterating French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to create a looser “European political community” that could help integrate Ukraine into the EU sooner.
