“The Stig Dagerman Prize in 2022 is awarded to the Belarusian musician and activist Maryja Kalesnikava for her outstanding courage in the fight for the democratic rights of the individual against criminal power and a state that, instead of protecting its citizens, judges and imprisones them.”
That was the jury’s motivation for the prize.
– I can not express how much I would like her to be free, says Tatsiana Khomich who took the opportunity to film with her mobile phone when the water was released in Älvkarlebyfallen’s intermediate fall at Laxön.
And director Dmitri Plax, who sits on the jury that nominated the winner, believes that there are clear connections between the winner and Stig Dagerman:
– Maryja Kalesnikava fights for freedom and Stig Dagerman’s entire writing was devoted to freedom.
