Monkeypox virus (Monkeypox), which has recently spread in various parts of the world, especially in the African continent, has caused people to worry. This virus, which was first detected in a monkey in 1958, was first recorded in humans in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970. Except for the UK, USA, Canada and some European countries, the WHO (World Health Organization) decided to hold an emergency meeting regarding the monkeypox virus, which was recently detected in Israel.

Explaining the details about the monkeypox virus, Health Sciences University (SBU) Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Hakan Oğuztürk said, “Monkeypox virus is not a newly emerging virus. With the declaration of the World Health Organization in 1979, Smallpox Virus was eliminated in the world, that is, no cases were reported. But Monkeypox is a different member of this virus family. Therefore, it was known that this virus caused diseases in Central and West Africa in small scales. This process set the agenda with the reporting of cases in some countries in both Asia, Europe and the Americas. Again, it is not a new virus. A virus known to the medical world. It is a virus that belongs to the smallpox family,” he said.

Emphasizing that the monkeypox virus is a member of the smallpox family, but not as deadly as the smallpox virus, Prof. Dr. Oğuztürk said, “The transmission features are as fast as Covid-19 and the incidence of contagion is not very high. The rate of being fatal is lower than the smallpox virus.” said.
SYMPTOMS OF MONKELOOM VIRUS
Giving information about the symptoms in people infected with monkeypox virus, Prof. Dr. Hakan Oguzturk said:
“There can be fever, back pain, joint pain and headache in the body. In addition, along with fatigue, there is swelling in the glands called lymph nodes in the body. In the next process, skin changes, which we call rashes, occur in areas such as the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, and then the face. There may also be liquid-filled forms of the rashes. But after a certain period of time, there is an improvement in these rashes. In this sense, it should be stated clearly that; It can be said that the diagnosis can be made clearly, there is a treatment process aimed at reducing the complaints in terms of treatment, and the probability of a pandemic such as Covid-19 is definitely low. But there is a process in which countries will be affected to some extent and that will follow with small cases.”
