In Belgium, it was determined that the monkeypox virus spread from the “fetish festival” called Darklands in Antwerp.
Antwerp Tropical Health Institute announced the first case in the country yesterday morning, and reported that the second case in contact with the first patient will be confirmed in a short time.
Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke later announced that the number of cases had increased to three.
MINISTRY OF HEALTH ANNOUNCED
The organizers of the 4-day Darklands festival held in Antwerp on May 5 announced that the virus was transmitted by people attending the event from abroad, and the Ministry of Health confirmed this.
The monkeypox virus, which was first seen in England on 7 May, has spread to 11 countries in Europe in the last 2 weeks. The monkeypox virus, which has been detected in 11 countries in the world so far, is divided into two as Congo and West African types. Of these species, the Congo virus is known to be the virus with the highest risk of death.
The virus, which is usually transmitted from animal to human and rarely from person to person, can cause high fever and itchy blisters on the body.
